With more and more money being put into resources like bike lanes, bike to work scheme and the introduction of Dublin Bikes etc., there are of course a higher number of accidents. Our team know that it is key to get your claim processed as soon as possible. At Rogers Solicitors, we can usually tell within one hour if you have a valid case.

Common Bicycle Accidents

The number one cause of bike related accidents are caused by car drivers. This can be down to a number of things, cyclists in a blind spot, poor visibility etc. Falling off a bike or hitting a pothole is another major cause. Trying to avoid obstacles, such as animals or children can be a huge risk too.

Whatever the reason, it is always worth calling your solicitor as soon as possible to find out if you have a valid claim.

Keeping Safe on your Bicycle

There are lots of ways you can help to ensure that the risk of an accident is kept to an absolute minimum.

  • Always wear a helmet. Your head is the most vulnerable part of the body – protect it.
  • Invest in some decent reflective gear. Visibility can be poor, even during the day. With most accidents caused by other drivers, you want to ensure that you are seen.
  • Know the rules of the road and follow them.
  • Just like a car, your bicycle need a service to ensure that there are no problems. Check tyres, brakes, lights etc. If you are not fully confident in doing this, bring it to your local bike shop.

Understand that weather like rain and ice can not only affect you, but other drivers. Keep safe distances and be alert at all times.
